Missing a tooth? A dental bridge might be the perfect solution. At East Lake Dental, we use bridges to fill gaps, restore your smile, and protect your oral health.
Why Replace Missing Teeth?
All your teeth play important roles in speaking, chewing, and maintaining alignment. When teeth are missing:
- Other teeth can shift out of position
- Your bite can become uneven
- Chewing becomes more difficult
- Your face shape can change over time
- Risk of gum disease increases
What is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge literally "bridges" the gap where teeth are missing. It consists of:
- Pontic: The false tooth (or teeth) that fills the gap
- Crowns: Placed on the teeth on either side to anchor the bridge
Types of Bridges
Fixed bridges are permanently cemented in place and can only be removed by a dental professional. They offer excellent stability and feel like natural teeth. Removable bridges can be taken out for cleaning but are less stable than fixed options. The Bridge Procedure
Getting a bridge typically requires two appointments:
First Appointment:- Prepare the anchor teeth by removing some enamel
- Take impressions for the dental lab
- Place a temporary bridge
- Remove the temporary
- Fit and adjust your permanent bridge
- Cement it in place
Caring for Your Bridge
A strict regimen of brushing and flossing is essential—your bridge relies on the neighboring teeth for support. We may recommend a water flosser to help clean around and under the bridge.
Materials Used
Bridges can be made from:
- Porcelain (most natural appearance)
- Gold alloys (very durable)
- Porcelain fused to metal (combines strength and aesthetics)
